Our team are driven by a passion to break down barriers to music education in North Wales. NEW Academi nurtures young Welsh musicians from igniting musical journeys with first experiences, through to inspiring musicians at grassroots level, and even enabling musicians at further study with professional artistic development.

Ignite

For our youngest audiences, our magical musical adventure story Slumbersaurus is the perfect gateway to classical music. Slumbersaurus is a curious young dinosaur who embarks on whimsical adventures that encourage creativity and interaction. Designed specifically for infants and juniors, Slumbersaurus' innovative performances combine live music, storytelling, and imaginative play to create engaging, accessible and multisensory experiences, whilst introducing young people to classical music and classical musicians.

Since 2023 NEW Sinfonia has presented Slumbersaurus events to over 1,500 children in a variety of locations and scenarios. Slumbersaurus is a pay-what-you-can event, making it accessible to everyone.

Inspire
Education and community engagement are at the heart of our mission. We deliver workshops and performances in schools and community centres that inspire young musicians. We are proud to work alongside all five Music Services across North-Wales, supporting and providing performances and workshops. In 2024 we delivered over 100 hours of workshops for young aspiring musicians with a total attendance of 691.

'Our work with NEW Sinfonia is hugely popular with pupils in Gwynedd and Anglesey. Rob and Jon always put maximum effort to understand our needs and requirements before planning and delivering great projects with excellent musicians. It is lovely to work with such talent that care deeply about music education.'
- Tudur Eames (Managing Director at Gwasanaeth Cerdd Ysgolion)
‘As a parent, I think it was a fantastic chance to play in an orchestra and it has really inspired my son Henry as a young musician.’
- Charlotte Beynon

Our side-by-side projects allow young musicians to play alongside our professional orchestra in workshops and performances.
We run side-by-side projects across NEW Sinfonia projects including our opera Gresford: Up From Underground and annually at the North Wales International Music Festival.

Enable
‘Learning from the inspiring musicians around me has been invaluable’
- Elana Kenyon-Gewirtz
We support young artists and emerging professional musicians in their artistic development through providing them with invaluable professional experience, workshops, and performance opportunities. Our partnership with the Royal Northern College of Music provides vital experience to young musicians, and brings high-calibre concerts to audiences in North Wales. We also work alongside the International Conducting Academy providing workshops and masterclasses to aspiring conductors.

Our NEW Academi Partners
'NEW Sinfonia have been brilliant at identifying the need for high quality professional music-making in North Wales. Their strong connections with the RNCM in general, and the Conducting Department in particular, have also led to some fantastic collaborations between us. These opportunities for our students to work with young professionals are hugely beneficial for all involved.'
- Mark Heron - Professor and Head of Conducting at the RNCM
