Zofia Łodygowska is the cellist with the award winning Diverso String Quartet who are studying on the International Artist Diploma programme at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.
Zofia Łodygowska – Cello
DIVERSO STRING QUARTET is a Polish quartet created by young and ambitious musicians: Marcin Ostrowski, Dagmara Foryś (violins), Magdalena Krawczuk (viola) and Zofia Łodygowska (cello). Members of the group are currently studying on the International Artist Diploma programme at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. In January 2016 they graduated with distinction from the Universitaet der Kuenste in Berlin completing Masters programme in Chamber Music under the tutelage of the famous Artemis Quartett.
In September 2014 they were awarded a Special Prize of the Karol Szymanowski International String Quartet Competition in Katowice, Poland. This was followed by becoming members of the Live Music Now Berlin programme. In March 2015, in recognition of their artistic achievements they were selected to receive ‘Młoda Polska’ scholarship funded by the Polish government. Later that year they won a Special Prize at the Ludwig van Beethoven International Chamber Music Competition in Lusławice, Poland.
The quartet have performed in some of the most renowned concert halls across Poland (Poznań Philharmonic Concert Hall, Lubrański Concert Hall), as well as Germany, Belgium, United Kingdom and Austria. In January 2016 they were invited to perform in the Bridgewater Hall foyle as part of the Joshua Bell and Steven Isserlis concert in Manchester. In September 2014 they performed Louis Spohr’s Concerto for String Quartet and Orchestra, with the Orchestra of Square Chapel in Halifax. The success of the concert was followed by invitations to perform chamber music recitals in the UK in 2016. The future performances include Ribfest Music Festival in Ribchester (UK) and Sacrum non profanum Festival in Poland amongst others. Additionally they play regularly in a piano quintet with Katarzyna Wasiak. As part of the ‘Mieczysław Weinberg Projekt’ they performed across Germany and Austria. Success of the project resulted in receiving a grant for a tour across Europe later in 2016.
The quartet have been working with many renowned musicinas: Petr Prause (Talich Quartet), Pavel Fischer (Skampa Quartet), Peter Cropper (Lindsay String Quartet), Frans Helmerson (Michelangelo Quartet) and took part in the European Chamber Music Academy working with Hatto Beyerle (Alban Berg Quartett) and Sara Bitlloch (Elias String Quartet).
Each member of Diverso String Quartet is a laureate of various solo competitions. Furthermore, they have performed extensively across the world as soloists, chamber musicians and orchestral musicians. As well as performing experience they have teaching experience across all ages and abilities (Academy of Music in Wrocław, Poland; Pro Corda Chamber Music Courses, UK; M. Karłowicz Music School in Poznań, Poland; private tuition).
Three of the members are currently working towards PhD in performance.
