NEW Sinfonia is a professional freelance orchestra based in North Wales that performs a vibrant programme across the whole musical spectrum. They are the Orchestra in Residence at the ‘North Wales International Music Festival’ and are in partnership with Welsh National Opera.
Established in 2011 by Robert and Jonathan Guy, the NEW Sinfonia is a professional freelance orchestra based in North Wales that is creating performance opportunities for outstanding professional young musicians. The team of players comes from across North Wales and beyond and can boast that as well as having studied in some of the world’s leading music conservatoires; they have also performed in some of the best known international orchestras and festivals.
Celebrated for their outstanding creative work, the NEW Sinfonia has been appointed as Orchestra in Residence at the ‘North Wales International Music Festival’ and are in partnership with Welsh National Opera. They have performed with esteemed artists who include Raphael Wallfisch, Federico Colli, Ye-Eun Choi, Tamsin Waley-Cohen, Llŷr Williams, David Kempster, Rhys Meirion and WNO artistes. NEW Sinfonia are proud to have given highly acclaimed world premieres by Rebecca Dale, Paul Mealor, Brian Hughes and Jonathan Guy.
NEW Sinfonia deliver a vibrant programme across the whole musical spectrum with recent appearances at Tŷ Pawb Wrexham, Llangollen Fringe Festival and their ever popular New Year Gala concerts. Using music as a powerful therapy for supporting health and wellbeing, NEW Sinfonia have taken their music making to communities in schools and hospitals. Their residency at Wrexham Maelor Hospital supported by Tesni Homes, was a finalist in the ‘Arts & Small Business’ category with Arts & Business Cymru. NEW Sinfonia were awarded a PRS Open Fund Grant to develop and perform new music with local artists. During the year they have been composing and recording new music, and are now in the final stages of launching an album with Golden Fable and The Innocent.
