Clarinet / Ensemble Manager

Jonathan is a clarinettist who studied at the RNCM and graduated with distinction from the MMus Solo Performance degree. He is the Bass Clarinettist with the Immix Contemporary Music Ensemble based in Liverpool and can be heard on their recent record "Transition".

Jonathan is a clarinettist who studied at the RNCM and graduated with distinction from the MMus Solo Performance degree. He studied with Nicholas Cox, John Bradbury, Christopher Swann, and Colin Pownall and was the recipient of three scholarships, one from the RNCM another award from the John Matthews Educational Charity, and finally a prestigious scholarship from the Arts Council of Wales and the Coalfields Regeneration Trust Talent Nurture Fund.

 

Jonathan performs Bass Clarinet with the Immix Contemporary Music Ensemble based in Liverpool and can be heard on their recent record “Transition”(immixensemble.co.uk). He is an extra player with the BBC Philharmonic and Ensemble Cymru, and has performed with Opra Cymru on their touring shows of Eugene Onegin and The Barber of Seville.

 

Whilst at the RNCM Jonathan participated in Professional Experience Schemes with the Halle Orchestra, and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, performed as principal clarinettist in the Symphony, Chamber, Concert and Opera Orchestras, and pursued his keen interest in contemporary music. In May 2013 Jonathan performed Simon Bainbridge’s Clarinet Quintet at the Wigmore Hall, London.

 

Jonathan most recently performed Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto with the Huddersfield Philharmonic to great acclaim. He performed Mendelssohn’s Konzertstück No. 1 and No. 2 with the NEW Sinfonia in November 2014, an ensemble based in North East Wales that Jonathan co-founded and manages with his brother, the upcoming conductor Robert Guy.
