NEW Sinfonia @ NWIMF 2018

NEW Sinfonia with cellist Raphael Wallfisch

Join NEW Sinfonia in St Asaph Cathedral as we take up our position as Orchestra in Residence at the North Wales International Music Festival (NWIMF) for 2018.

The third instalment of our 2018 residency sees us perform Elgar’s elegiac Cello Concerto with renowned Cellist Raphael Wallfisch. Raphael is one of the most recorded classical artists and has performed in concerts around the world, displaying his prowess as a masterful technician along with his soaring, singing sound.

Alongside the Elgar, NEW Sinfonia will perform two World Premieres. The first by local renowned composer Brian Hughes entitled “The Death of the Skylark”. The second is a fresh take on the World War 1 marching song “Pack Up Your Troubles” by our own upcoming composer Jonathan Guy. For this piece the orchestra will be joined by young musicians from the NEW Shoots Project. Surrounding these new works will be pieces by Grace Williams, Maurice Ravel and finally Leonard Bernstein in a tribute to the centenary of the composer’s birth.
